Cheetahs Win 3 out of 4 @ Charity Tournament
May 11, 2008, 9:45 pmThe Connecticut Cheetahs' goal was twofold this weekend as they travelled to Holy Cross College in Worcester, MA for the Flutie Classic. The Cheetahs hoped to build upon their recent Silver Medal performance in the Connecticut District Championships while supporting a very worthwhile cause. All proceeds from this tournament went to benefit The Doug Flutie, Jr. Foundation for Autism. The Cheetahs managed to come away with a sense of accomplishment on both counts - winning three out of four games and also presenting the Foundation with donations they had collected over the past month. On the court the Cheetahs began the weekend with a 49-42 victory over the North Central Blaze. In the second game, the Cheetahs suffered their only loss of the tournament - a one point heartbreaker, 47-46, to the ever tenacious Mass Bearcats, who overcame a fifteen point deficit to overtake the Cheetahs in the final seconds of the game, avenging two prior losses to the Cheetahs this season. Ironically it was Mass Bearcats Head Coach Darren Flutie who had invited the Cheetahs to participate in Flutie Classic. On Sunday morning it was the battle of big cats as the Cheetahs took on their Western Mass counterpart. The Connecticut team came away with a 44-27 victory. The final game was a physical 49-34 victory over the Bay State Blizzard. The Cheetahs travel to Springfield, Mass and the Hall of Fame Tournament May 23-25th.
